When does FTA Satellite Installation become an Art form? These three inverted satellite antenna are an on going project of mine. use non metallic paint

Since DBS Signals are Circualr the position of the LNB does not matter, it will not help or hinder. The small dish is actually on a Fan stand :)

cool, does the inversion of the lnb have any affect on improving performance? ps, love the chair base stand!

psb2usa @ 9:02 pm #

Sure you can, just don't paint anywhere near the connections, or on the front lens/cap of the LNB

digitalenigma00 @ 9:02 pm #

i have a dishnetwork plus pro twin lnb can i spray paint it without losing function?

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

I would be proud to have this setup in my backyard — nice work!

AltimateX @ 9:02 pm #

love your set up

and thanks for introducing me to a new good song!

Beautiful setup of those dishes. FTA is something I really want to get into, and not for DishNetwork hacking purposes…

It's like freeform metal sculpture.

Also, awesome use of "Satellite Anthem Icarus." Fitting :)

When does FTA Satellite Installation become an Art form?

These three inverted satellite antenna are an on going project of mine. The 40" main dish is on a Poor Man's H to H mount" It rotates on a pole set at EXACTLY 45º, same as my latitude here in the Twin Cities. When It moves it tracks the Clarke Belt precisely. The small DBS inverted dish was in use recently for the FTA NASA channel a GREAT reason for a FTA satellite system alone. And the middle size dish (Globecast dish) was an experiment to see how low to the ground I could go and still get signal from the whole Clake belt, the answer was VERY LOW. Ground level to be exact!

My test rig was looking good in the early summer evening sun here in MN. so I decided to take a few snaps, I always paint my dish with FLAT MATT BLACK Paint. In the winter even a weak sun will heat them up in the morning and melt any snow and ice, they also fade into the background of the yard and are thus less obtrusive.

Inverting satellite dish is often used by the military and in the north and south poles where the elevation to satellites is extremely low on the horizon. When inverted they gather every bit as much signal as they would in the normal off-set position, but I think they really look cool inverted, LOW PROFILE.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to install a satellite dish as LOW as you can get it, FTA dish are large. When on the ground/pole wind is not as much of a factor, as even very slight movements and flexing of the dish in the wind can really drop the signal quality often resulting in pixelization or even outages in extreme conditions. Another great reason for installing low is in Snowy regions you can simply walk outside and gently brush off any ice and or snow. (Another tip would be King's Rain shield or loosely tie a 'black' garbage back over the dish. It will not affect the signal quality and as it blows in the wind snow will not be able to accumulate in the antenna.
